The delegation of the State Duma of the Russian Federation headed by the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, the Head of the Republic of Crimea Sergey Aksenov, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov and other distinguished guests took part in the festive procession to mark the fifth anniversary of the all-Crimean Referendum and the Reunification of the Crimea with Russia.
Then the festive column of participants - veterans, militia, the Afghan veterans, cadets, representatives of the Crimean Cossacks, youth and public organizations, Crimeans and guests of the peninsula, as well as representatives of national and cultural societies of the Republic of Crimea in national costumes - carried the unfurled Russian and Crimean flags along the central streets of the city.
The column followed the Kirov Prospect across the Karl Marx street to the monument to "Polite people" in the Square of the Republic, and then proceeded to the building of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea, where a solemn meeting was held.
Addressing the participants of the meeting from the stage, Sergey Aksenov congratulated the Crimeans on the fifth anniversary of the return of the Crimea to its historical homeland. According to the Head of Crimea, the events of the Crimean spring passed without a single shot or victim thanks to the courage of the Crimeans, the support of Russia and all concerned, as well as due to the fact that the Russian President was personally supervising the process. "Five years have passed as one day, and today we celebrate the first five years of the return of the Republic of Crimea to its historical homeland, to its home, Russia. You know it's been a hard road, but I'm sure that we would have gone this way as many times as we would have had to, be it a thousand times or more. Before that, we could not even dream that in 2014 we would return to our historical homeland and be able to fulfill the dreams of our veterans, our elders, all those who were originally born in the Soviet Union, who lived in Russia and knew what it was. Unfortunately, 25 years of the annexation of the Crimea by Ukraine were marked by the fact that we were treated not as a native child, but as a foster one. No one ever thought about the development of the Crimea, did not think about the happiness of people, and returning home we all got it", said the Head of the Crimea.
Sergey Aksenov also thanked the guests of the event for their participation in the festival, as well as for the attention of the federal authorities and the President personally to the problems that exist in the Crimea.
During the meeting Vyacheslav Volodin said that the Crimea united all the peoples of multinational Russia, that five years ago the whole country rallied around the peninsula, and that these events went down in history. "Five years ago you’ve made your choice, the Crimea and Sevastopol returned to Russia. This event will surely go down in history, but we must keep it in our memory. And if we remember what the people of the Crimea and Sevastopol did, if we remember what you survived, we will forever cherish the memory of those events, and we will not allow our people to be divided,” stressed Vyacheslav Volodin.
"Five years have passed since those significant events when the fate of Crimea and, by and large, the whole of Russia was decided at the walls of the Parliament”, Chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov said, speaking at the rally. According to him, it was then that the Crimeans who for twenty-five years had fought for the preservation of their regional rights and moral values, threw away all contradictions, stood up for their Republic and pronounced a decisive " Yes " to the reunification of the Crimea with the Russian Federation.
"That day we did not think about any infrastructure reforms, we wanted only one thing – to return to our homeland, to our civilized space, to Russia," the head of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea stressed. "March 16, 2014 will forever remain the day of unity and joy, the holiday of the Crimean spring,” the speaker said.
Also on the stage were the leaders of the State Duma factions Sergei Neverov, Gennady Zyuganov, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, Sergei Mironov, deputy plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Southern Federal District Kirill Stepanov, former deputy of the French Parliament, president of the ‘Franco-Russian Dialogue’ Association Thierry Mariani, deputy governor of the Krasnodar region, Cossack general, military ataman of the Kuban Cossack army Nikolai Doluda, and others.
The event was also attended by former presidential envoy to the North Caucasus Federal district, the Hero of Russia Oleg Belaventsev, acting Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan Radiy Khabirov, a representative of the French Republic, member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Sergey Tsekov, member of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (representing executive power of the Republic of Crimea) Olga Kovitidi, co-chairman of "Business Russia" and the organizing Committee of the 5th YIEF Andrey Nazarov, director of the YIEF Foundation Rustam Muratov and others.
